TrueDome - the only alternative to original
We are proud to introduce TrueDome®, the world’s first reverse-engineered Superdome.
TrueDome® began as a passion project of watchmaker and enthusiast, Greg Petronzi. The goal was to create a crystal that would remain true to the original Tropic 19 Superdome. The “Superdome,” as collectors have come to call it, is an essential component of the vintage Submariner aesthetic. Unfortunately, its production was discontinued in the early 1980’s and was replaced by a flatter variant.
As the original Superdome becomes more difficult to source, prices on the secondary market have soared dramatically. Apart from high costs, as acrylic ages it becomes more brittle and often clouds when polished. These aging effects can compromise both the aesthetics and structural integrity of a watch. Thus, emerged the need for a high quality alternative to the original.
Using laser guided micrometers, multiple CAD renderings and 3D molded samples, we achieved the closest match of the original Superdome. To differentiate TrueDome® from original examples we have laser etched the reference number on the sidewall to prevent it from being sold as original. The laser etching of the reference does not compromise water resistance or structural integrity.
The D19 superdome was only the beginning. We now offer more models for different watch references, and have even more coming soon. No corners have been cut in the manufacturing process. Each model has undergone months of research, development, and testing prior to being offered publicly for sale.
TrueDome® utilizes a combination of the highest strength and most optically clear acrylic manufactured in Switzerland. Each unit is hand-inspected at multiple points for quality control.
TrueDomes are now mounted on all of our personal watches and we are thrilled to offer them to other discerning collectors.
